We have supported a public consultation for a multi-million pound road and business scheme designed to boost jobs in the south coast town of Hastings.
Regeneration company Sea Change Sussex has drawn up proposals for the ‘Queensway Gateway’ road to provide access to land zoned for business development in the area’s Local Plan. With the right commercial property schemes, this land would accommodate up to 1,370 jobs.
The Queensway Gateway would also have a positive impact on local traffic flows and road safety.
We have helped Sea Change consult local residents, businesses and councillors affected by the proposals. The exercise has involved drop-in, presentation and question/answer sessions plus meetings with local councillors.
We have collated and analysed the consultation views expressed, of which the development team has taken account by adjusting its proposals.
Feedback themes include approval of the scheme’s job creation purpose and congestion easing effect; concerns about longer routes to some local destinations; and the importance of landscaping and ecology measures to protect the environment.
Our consultation report is being submitted as part of Sea Change’s planning application for the new road.
