TK Associates has been commissioned by Runnymede Borough Council for an extensive copywriting and editing assignment to help deliver a new, 600-page website.

The project is a core part of the Surrey local authority’s Business Transformation Programme, designed to overhaul its efficiency and effectiveness. Its goals are to create a website of significantly higher quality and value to the community, and to increase the number of transactions able to be carried out online from three to well over 100.

We have been appointed after a competitive tender process comprising selection interviews and written tests as well as review of client references and previous work.

We are now playing a site-wide editorial role to ensure every web page is informative, concise, in plain English and a consistent, approachable style.

TK Associates MD, Tariq Khwaja, says: “This project is right up our street because we’re passionate about helping organisations eliminate jargon and communicate in simple, engaging terms.

“There’s far too much impenetrable policy-speak amongst local authorities. But Runnymede’s taking an enlightened approach and working with us to present a human face and communicate effectively with its community.”

Runnymede Borough Council covers a population of around 80,000 in an area of Surrey which includes the towns of Chertsey, Egham, Englefield Green, Thorpe, Wentworth and Virginia Water.

The Council’s core focus is to enhance residents’ quality of life and provide an attractive environment for businesses and visitors by nurturing ‘healthier, safer, more prosperous communities’.

The borough derives its name from the local riverside meadow where King John signed the Magna Carter in 1215 (Magna Carta Memorial shown).
